History-chasing Brecon get big boost

Amman United

Amman United are one step closer to returning to Principality Stadium after beating Trimsaran

Brecon’s bid to become the first club to make it back-to-back wins in the Specsavers National Plate were given a boost when they picked up a home tie in Round 2 on 12 October.

Having seen off 2014 finalists Rhiwbina 6-24 in last weekend’s opening weekend, they will now receive Division 1 East Central side Ynysybwl on the next step to a possible return to Principality Stadium.

Last season’s runners-up, Bonymaen, will also be at home next month after safely making it through to the second round without playing a game. They were given a walk-over by Gilfach Goch, as were 2018 winners Brynmawr, 2016 champions Bedlinog, Aberystwyth, Bethesda, Felinfoel, Mumbles, Nantgaredig and Tondu.

Three former winners of the National Bowl are also safely through to the next round, although only 2017 champions Amman United will enjoy a home draw.

Their reward for winning 29-7 at Trimsaran is a home tie next month against Abertysswg.

Abercarn are seeking to bridge a 10 year gap since their last visit to Principality Stadium this season and they got their campaign off to a good start with a 39-12 home defeat of Newport Saracens. They will now travel to meet Penygroes next month.

The 2013 winners, Wattstown, who edged out Cardiff Medicals 17-12 in one of the games of the opening round, will head to Bryncoch to try to continue their run.

The reward for Fairwater for knocking out the 2014 winners, CR Cymry Caerdydd, is a home game against Rhyl & District.
