The North Wales club takes pride in its place at ‘the heart of the local community’ and was only too pleased to hand over the keys when approached by South Denbighshire GP practices to become a Fever Assessment Centre.
President Tegid Phillips said, “As a club we were more than keen to do what we could to contribute to the effort and support the NHS.
“We had already shut down following the shutting down of rugby activities so the facility was available, and we felt this was the least we could do in the circumstances.
“We are fortunate we are situated in a good location on the edge of town and with a big car park, plus the lay-out of the clubhouse means you can come in through one door and out of another. Of course, our physio room is available along with changing room facilities too.
“The facility will be by GP appointment only for Central and South Denbighshire so there is no need for club volunteers to help with the car park or anything at the moment.
“The deep clean has already been done so preparations are well underway.”
Mr Phillips is especially proud of the contribution the club is making as his family has always been instrumental in the role of the rugby club, starting with his father, Les, a local headteacher and pillar of the community.
“The ground, Caeau Les Phillips, was named in recognition of the work my father did in establishing the club in 1977 and I know he would be very proud of the actions the club is taking.”
