Former Wales Sevens star Ben Roach and ex-pro prop Jack Gilding have both signed-on at Rodney Parade as Morris continues to build his squad for the new campaign.

Roach has been a mainstay for the Wales Sevens side for the past five years. The 26-year-old, Cardiff-born back row man won Wales U18 honours while in the Cardiff Blues academy, played in the Premiership with Cardiff RFC and then went on to play for the Dragons.

“Ben is one of the most experienced players in the Wales Sevens team and has captained them on a number of occasions. He has been able to transfer his sevens skills to the 15 man game in the past, most notably with the Dragons,” said Morris.

“We already have a great competition in our back row that we feel can compete at the very top, but to be able to secure Ben’s services was a no brainer. He is in the prime of his career, has a big work rate and great running skills that will complement our style of rugby.

“I’m looking forward to seeing Ben bring his leadership qualities and international experience to our environment this season.”

As well as improving the strength of the Black & Ambers squad in the back row, Morris has also been able to bring in the vastly experienced tight head prop Gilding. The 32-year-old was at Merthyr last season, but has professional experience from playing in the English Premiership, Championship and PRO14 after spells with London Welsh, London Irish, Edinburgh, Viadana and Worcester Warriors.

“It’s great to be able to bring in someone of Jacks calibre. Having played against Jack last season for Merthyr we know that his scrummaging is second to none and he will bring further competition to our already very strong front row this season,” added Morris.
