There were two tries each for Sam Scarfe and Lloyd Lewis as Pooler powered to a maximum points to stay in the hunt for a top two finish. Matthew Jarvis chipped in with five conversions.

“It’s been hard motivating the players at training with a lack of games, but this week there was a change in attitude and change of intensity,” said Pontypool head coach, Leighton Jones.

Top of the table Bargoed romped to a ninth straight win to maintain their vice-like grip on top spot as they won 56-19 at bottom of the table Tata Steel. Steffan Jones scored two tries and converted eight to end with a match haul of 26 points, while other tries came from Geraint Edmonds (2), James Leadbeater (2), Grant Rogers and Dillon Williams.

Elsewhere, third place Neath beat Ystalyfera 19-11 to continue piling on the pressure at the top of the table.  Tries from McCauley Griffiths, Tim Ryan and Alun Jones were enough to see the visitors take the points.

Cardiff Met came out on top of a thriller at Cyncoed, as they beat Cross Keys by just one point. A late try and conversion was not quite enough to level the deficit for Cross Keys, as two tries from Ethan Bowden and one from Brad Morgan were enough to earn the students a second single point triumph over Keys this season.

Ystrad Rhondda put last week’s defeat away to Narberth behind them, to beat the Otters 21-15 away from home.  The Otters had run out 46-24 victors’ in the WRU Championship Cup, but tries from Carl Williams, Liam Wiggins and McCauley Rowley made sure the journey back to Rhondda was a happy one.

Struggling Beddau fell to another defeat at home to Maesteg Quins, as a charge down, a penalty and a penalty try steered the visitors the win.  It was 8-7 to Beddau when the Quins were awarded a penalty try for preventing a clear score.  A late penalty followed to give the visitors a 17-8 win.
