The 31-year-old, who played 132 times for the Dragons in a seven-year stint at Rodney Parade, will combine playing alongside his brother, Aaron, at the Drovers while acting as the backs and S&C coach for Llandovery College.
The unique deal means a return to Church Bank for one of the most reliable midfield player in Welsh rugby. He played 53 times for the Drovers over a five-year period between 2010-15 before playing 67 times for the Scarlets.
Released by the Dragons when his latest contract expired this summer, Warren will now play under the expert guidance of his former Coleg Sir Gar rugby master Euros Evans at Llandovery and will link-up with the College’s head of rugby, Nathan Thomas, and newly appointed director of elite rugby, Sam Williams, in working with the side that plays in the Welsh Schools & Colleges League.
Already a graduate in Sports Science, he will use his time at the College to study for a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) to attain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
“The partnership between the Drovers and the College has been happy and long standing and it has been a pleasure working with them in setting up this innovative scheme for the benefit of both parties.” said Drovers chairman, Peter Rees.
“On this occasion we have collaborated over a couple of days to create a playing and academic development package for a former Drover and Welsh international who had been released from his regional contract and had expressed an interest in re-joining us at Llandovery, particularly under the guidance of Euros Evans.
“Llandovery RFC are delighted that Adam has chosen to return to the Drovers as he was a powerful member of our team prior to progressing to international honours. It will be great to see the two Warren brothers back together in what is already an exciting mix of young and experienced players.
“We are confident Adam will help us and the College to further develop aspiring regional players and particularly, from the Drovers’ viewpoint, to play the exciting competitive rugby that is synonymous with Llandovery.
“It is great that the Premiership is attracting quality players both out of the regions and at the commencement of their careers. By getting a suitable mix of experience and youth we can continue to improve the standards at the semi-professional level whilst also providing an environment that will develop the stars of the future.
“All too often we see players forced to move outside Wales to sustain their career. It just demonstrates the potential for innovative partnership working for the benefit of Welsh Rugby.”
Llandovery College have produced 48 Welsh international players, including Alun Wyn Jones and George North, as well as current England scrum half Harry Randall.
“This appointment shows our intent to be a centre of excellence for rugby at the College and will build on our already top-quality team of coaches,” said Warden, Dominic Findlay.
“Our partnership with Llandovery RFC is going from strength to strength and will benefit both the town’s rugby side and College students. We look forward to Adam joining us for our pre- season training camps over the next few months.
