The top two teams served up a game that would have had Butler waxing lyrical on commentary and it could have gone either way

Deon Smith and Nicky Griffiths scored a try for each team, before outside halves, Steff Williams and Matthew Jarvis, traded penalties, leaving Neath with a slender 13-10 lead at half time.

The game continued in the same vein in the second half. Two quick tries from Amosa Nova and Ieuan Jones gave Pontypool a 24-13 lead, before Sion Crocker scored two tries for the visitors.

Joel Mahoney hit back for Pooler with a try, giving his side a 34-25 lead. Aled Brew scored late on, to make it interesting, but Pontypool held on to a crucial 34-30 win, which takes them top of the table.

Ystalyfera’s Sam Cowley scored a try, three penalties and a conversion as his side beat Tata Steel 48-7. Thomas Powell scored two, Steff Jones, Ben Williams and Joshua Congreve completed the seven try win to put themselves 6th in the table.

Cross Keys got back to winning ways against Trebanos. Keys were coming off the back of a 56-7 loss against Pontypool but were in control early on.

Cross Keys scored two tries in the first half and led 18-0 at half time. Trebanos hit back with two tries of their own in the second half from Iestyn Lewis and Iestyn Scott, as they mounted a comeback, but Cross keys held on to a 33-15 win.

Cardiff Met remain third, but lost their 100% winning record, as they fell to their first loss of the season against Glamorgan Wanderers who sealed an excellent 35-20 victory. Wing Alfie Price got two tries and No 8 Albert Taylor got the other for the students, with Osian Evans adding a conversion and penalty.

Bargoed got their second win in a row against Beddau as they earned a 42-20 victory. Duane Dyer, Rhys Thomas, Alex Gardner-Key, Callum Merrick and James Leadbetter got their tries and there was also a penalty try.

Callaghan Smith opened the scoring for Bedwas, who struggled early on against Narberth, who dominated the opening exchanges. The away side led 22-7 at half time having scored three tries.

Bedwas mounted a strong comeback in the second half, scoring tries through Rhys Morgans, Dylan Morgan and Aaron Billingham. But Narberth just held on to a 27-26 victory.

Ystrad Rhondda and Maesteg Quins played out a 13-13 draw, with the Quins notching a second half try to peg back the home team after they led 10-6 at the break.

Wing Josh Williams crossed for Ystrad’s only try of the game and outside half Rhys Truelove added the extras and kicked a penalty. Owen Howe replied with two penalties for the Quins, one of which came from the half-way line.

Howe went on to miss with two other long range efforts, but did manage to convert Nathan Smith’s second half try. Truelove landed a second penalty after the break to level things up.
