Ammanford warm-up for top of the table clash with Bonymaen

Ammanford got ready for their top of the table showdown with unbeaten Bonymaen by coming from behind to beat Bridgend Athletic in Admiral Division 1 West Central.

Having conceded three tries in the first half, and trailing 17-6, they conjured up a try by full-back Elis Lewis that Ryan Wiliams converted to bring it back to a one score game. 

They then went on to shut out their hosts after the break and run in three more tries to end up with a bonus-point and a 34-17 triumph. Wing Mike Rees, Lewis again and then scrum half Jonny Evans crossed the home line and Wiliams converted two of them to end up with a 12 point haul 

They now trail Bonyamen by four points but could overhaul them if they win at home this weekend with a bonus point. Bony, meanwhile, extended their unbeaten run to five games with a 31-5 home win over Brynamman. 

In Division 1 North, Nant Conwy won the battle of the top two unbeaten teams as they triumphed 22-13 over Ruthin at home. They currently lead the table by five points from Caernarfon, who are similarly unbeaten and have a game in hand. 

Caernarfon were held 7-7 in the first-half against COBRA, with the home side bagging a penalty try. Gareth Pritchard scored in the first half for the home side and then Iolo Hughes (2), Rhydian Williams followed suit. 

Guto Pierce added three conversions and a penalty to make it 29-14 in the end, after COBRA grabbed a consolation try at the death. 

In Division 1 East, Newbridge made it five bonus point wins in a row to stay unbeaten at the top. They won 32-22 at Bedlinog as they prepared for their top of the table clash with Penallta this weekend at the Welfare Ground. 

Penallta were beaten at Brecon earlier in the season but are only six points back in second. They won 41-21 at home against Dowlais. 

Llangennech sit proudly on top of Division 1 West after they dished out six of the best to Penclawdd in a 38-10 win on the road. Dan Guarneri got the only try for the home side and Marcus Brown added a conv version and penalty.

There are three teams tied on 20 points at the top of the table and Crymych, who ran in nine tries in their 63-6 home win over Pembroke, will head to Llanegennch this weekend looking to take the home side’s unbeaten record and overtake them in the race for the title.

Back row man Cai Ifans scored a hat-trick of tries for Crymych, while centre Gethin Gibby helped himself to two. Al nine tries were converted by outside half Adam Phillips as he notched 18 points.

Also level on points at the top, although having played one game extra than the leaders like Crymych, are Newcastle Emlyn, who beat Whitland 36-6.
