Riah Jones sets up another attack for Coleg Gwent

Welsh Schools & Colleges League leaders Coleg Sir Gar could effectively knock last season’s runners up, Llandovery College, out of the running for the main final if they can beat them at Church Bank, Llandovery tonight (Wednesday, 16 November).

With three games to play in the league campaign, Sir Gar has lost only once and currently lead reigning champions Cardiff & Vale College by three points in the race to finish top. Llandovery are in fifth, 11 points behind Sir Gar ahead of their latest meeting.

Llandovery picked up the full five points last week when they beat Pembrokeshire College 69-5, scoring 11 tries. Three of them went to Kai Clarke, while Owain-Harri Davies kicked five of the seven conversions.

Sir Gar warned up with a 36-12 home win over Bridgend College to make it eight wins out of nine this season. Their only defeat to date has been against Coleg Gwent and they finish with a home game against Coleg Llandrillo before heading to third placed Coleg Y Cymoedd.

Cardiff & Vale College host Neath Port Talbot College in Round 11 and will be confident after their 25-3 triumph over Newport HS last week. Owain James scored twice and Rhys Mottram kicked 10 points to secure their eighth win in nine, having only lost this season to Sir Gar.

Ysgol Glantaf are still in the mix for a top six finish thanks to their 31-24 win over local rivals Whitchurch HS last week. In a thrilling game of eight tries, Whitchurch lost out in the end after picking up four yellow cards.

Glantaf scored tries through Sion Davies, Ben Roberts, Dewi Roberts and Ben Gerraghty, while Harri Wilde converted four and added a penalty. Whitchurch had tries from Ben Spittle, Ethan Evans, John Beya and Matty Young and Fraser Britton converted two of them.

Whitchurch host Coleg Gwent, while Glantaf head to Bridgend College. The other games see Newport HS host Gower College and Coleg Llandrillo welcome Pembrokeshire College.
