Venue change for National Schools and Colleges League finals

Cardiff & Vale College will take on Coleg Sir Gar in this year's Cup final

The Welsh Rugby Union has moved three National Schools and Colleges League finals, due to be played at Principality Stadium next week, to alternative venues.

Following the four recent Autumn Nations Series matches at Principality Stadium, facility preparations are beginning immediately for the 2023 Guinness Six Nations.

This includes work in the main bowl and renovation work on the pitch and other stadium areas.

This work has been necessarily brought forward, to maximise the time that contractors have access to the Stadium throughout a busy Christmas period, in order to properly prepare for the Championship in February.

As a consequence, the WRU has sourced alternative venues for the NSCL (National Schools & College League) final which will now be played at Parc y Scarlets and the Plate and Bowl game, which will be played at Ystrad Mynach Centre of Excellence – both of which will take place this December.

The decision to play these games in December has been informed by the need to maintain the integrity of squads and respect the international calendar which follows the Christmas period.

The remaining games of the Welsh Schools Cup programme due to be played on Thursday 8th December, will be rescheduled to the beginning of March and these matches will still be played at Principality Stadium.

“This will ensure the playing experience and spectator experience at the stadium is at its best as we look forward to building on the success of Road to Principality 2022 (RTP) which took place earlier this year, for RTP 2023,” said WRU community director Geraint John.

“We apologise for the unexpected disruption and any disappointment felt by players and families, but we look forward to welcoming everyone back to the stadium in the Spring.

“Family, friends, and local rugby communities can still follow the action live via S4C online who will be live streaming the Colleges Final and covering the Plate and Bowl games as part of Rygbi Pawb on S4C.”
