The Steelman continued their impressive run of recent results with a second-half comeback to claim a win in west Wales to put them joint third in the table.

It was Jason Strange’s side eighth win of the season and they are now joint third with Llandovery but they have played two more games as we head into this weekend’s fixtures.

Wing Ryan Davies, No8 Ryan Jenkins, centre Ethan Phillips and replacement Harry Drane all crossed for tries for the visitors to put the Steelmen only a point behind Aberavon, who are second, in the Premiership table.

Strange didn’t hide his frustration at Ebbw Vale’s performance in a scrappy first half but was satisfied to come away with all the points on the road.

“We are pleased with the bonus-point but disappointed with the performance,” said Strange.

“Really disappointed, to be honest, it was nowhere near the levels we expect but some of that was down to Llanelli and I thought they out muscled us first half and won the rucks.

“We were better second half but as we spoke after the game in the changing room if we are going to challenge at the top end of the table, we need to be better than we were here.”

Llanelli were only 13-17 behind at half-time with centre Eddie James crossing for the first of the two side’s tries, with skipper Iwan Shenton grabbing a late try.

The home side proved a tough nut to crack for the visitors during an uncompromising and physical first 40 minutes before Ebbw Vale proved why they are in the play-off places.

The Steelmen took the initiative during the second half and took all the points on offer and Strange’s young side demonstrated why they have become a force during this campaign.

Skipper Ryan Jenkins led the second half rally and proved why he is becoming a real talisman for his side.

Ebbw Vale ran out deserved winners and are still in the top four play-off places in the Premiership with leaders Cardiff and second placed Aberavon very much in their sights.
