Hopkins making his mark in Indigo Prem

Evan Lloyd and Dewi Cross may continue to lead the way at the top of the points and try scoring charts respectively, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anyone else raising the roof in the Indigo Premiership league campaign this season.

After the latest round of league action which saw a couple of shock results, Ebbw Vale’s Lloyd remains the leading points scorer with 117 league points while Cardiff winger Cross is proving unstoppable on the try scoring charts, heading the field by some considerable distance with 15 touchdowns.

Elsewhere, Swansea youngster Iestyn Hopkins is beginning to make his presence felt, too. He scored a brace against Carmarthen Quins on the wing, but is equally at home at full-back, where he featured for Wales U20 last season.

He is safe under the high ball, possesses a lethal step and his initial instinct is always to attack, no matter where on the pitch. That strategy has seen him get his side out of danger on countless occasions this season, beating 33 defenders in the process.

Hopkins also finds himself on the hitlist for most line-breaks with six, but Cross again has clear daylight at the top with 14 next to his name.

Cardiff are blessed with plenty of star quality up front but it is understated second row Sean Moore who is making waves alongside his more illustrious colleagues.

The former Wales U20 lock has made more ball rip attempts (11) than any other player and also leads the way when it comes to being involved in the thick of the action. He has been involved in 247 rucks so far, with teammate Nathan Hudd his nearest challenger with 234 involvements.
