Rumney

You have to go back to 3 September for the last time Rumney tasted defeat, a 9-3 home loss to title rivals St Peter’s, and their stunning win at The Oval completed the double over the Zebras, now in third, they followed up their 29-17 home triumph over them.

Rumney rocketed to the top of Admiral Division 1 East Central with a 19-11 away win at Treorchy as they made in nine wins in a row.

No 8 Charlie Barrett led the way with the opening score of the game and then Chris Maton made it 8-0. Two penalties for the home side from Jacob Lloyd cut the gap to two points before Maton struck again to make it 11-6 to the visitors at the break.

Luke Fear then extended Rumney’s lead with a second try before Maton’s third penalty put a halt to any thoughts of a home revival after they had crossed for a try of their own. Victory took Rumney a point clear of St Peter’s and Treorchy at the top of the table, despite having had points deduced and played a game less.

St Peter’s also picked up five points from their 36-5 win at Ynysybwl to stay within a point of the top spot they have occupied for much of the season. Sam Norton, Lloyd Smith, Gbemi (correct) Fisher, Joe Davies and Harry Gimson, with a spectacular 70 metre run, grabbed the tries for the Rocks.

Unbeaten Newbridge, in Division 1 East, and Nant Conwy, in Division 1 North, both extended their winning runs as they prepared for their Division 1 Cup semi-finals next weekend. Newbridge made it 15 wins in a row with their 43-5 home win over Bedlinog, while Nant Conwy ran out 24-16 winners in their top of the tbale clash with second placed Ruthin.

Newbridge ran in six tries to ensure they made it 15 bonus-points in a row, with Jacob Duffy, Luke Morgan, Johnny Paynter, Cian Jones, Mike Kavanagh and Scott Evans all crossing the visitors’ line. Robbie Turley converted five and added a penalty.
