“Last year we returned to Principality for the first time since the pandemic to showcase our incredible inclusion teams and the projects and programmes within that space. At the end of #RTP22 I was asked “how do we go bigger?,” explained Darren Carew, WRU National Inclusion Manager.

“That was the catalyst for this year’s event. It is our job to truly reflect all of Wales through our sport and that is the goal we continually strive to achieve.

”We start with a Mixed Ability fixture on Thursday evening seeing the mighty Cardiff Chiefs and Llanelli Warriors go head-to-head.

“Not only do they smash lumps out of each other on the pitch, but they smash the perceptions of what people with disabilities can and can’t do. This is swiftly followed by a full day dedicated to inclusion.

“Friday will see 500 children, teens and adults from across the inclusion space take to the hallowed turf before it’s pulled up in preparation for the Wheelchair Rugby Championships the following week.

International Gay Rugby – Cardiff lions v Swansea Vikings

“Friday will be the icing on the cake as we will have representation from ethnically diverse schools, special educational needs schools, visually impaired rugby, walking rugby, vets touch and three of our four outstanding International Gay Rugby teams as well.

“They are two very special days dedicated to providing positive rugby experiences to those who may never have experienced them before and shines a spotlight on the outstanding teams, groups and individuals that we as the Welsh Rugby Union are proud to support.”
