Nant had clinched the title earlier in the week with a 34-3 home win over Bethesda and made it 18 wins on the bounce with their 32-22 victory at fourth placed Caernarfon. They still have to play Dinbych home and away this week to complete their season and try to extend their current lead of 14 points.

Caernarfon got off to a flying start with a Guto Pierce penalty being followed by the first of two tries in the match from flanker Dafydd Thirsk. Pierce also improved a try from Iolo Hughes to make it 15-0 after 24 minutes.

The champions hit back with a try from Elis Fon that was converted and a Caron Pari penalty, but Thirsk’s second try on the stroke of half-time, with Pierce adding the extras, made it 22-10 to the home side at the break.

But that was as good as it got for Caernarfon, who were eventually buried under an avalanche of 22 second half points. Fon got a second try for the visitors, Pari followed suit and in the last move of the match, Rhydian Jones bagged the bonus point.

Two ancient Cardiff rivals will battle it out for the Admiral Division 1 East Central title after St Peter’s beat Rumney 31-28.

Having won 12-5 at Rumney on the opening day of the season, The Rocks did the double scoring five tries as they closed the gap at the top to three points with a game in hand on their neighbours.

Rumney still top the table and will complete their season at Rhydyfelin on 17 May.  St Peter’s host St Joseph’s the night before and then head to Rhydyfelin on Saturday.

Centres Joe Davies and Gbemi Fisher conjured up three tries between them for the home side and the other two came from driving line outs, with Jack Cooke and Joel Coughlan getting the nod.

Hugo Souto scored two of Rumney’s tries, Mike Young got another and their fourth and final effort at the death earned them two vital bonus-points. Luke Fear kicked the rest of their points.

Treorchy were forced to come from behind in the second half at The Oval after Porth Quins had edged the opening 40 minutes, 18-17. The visitors only managed to add a penalty after the break, while the Zebras raced to a 40-21 triumph that guaranteed them third place and promotion to the Championship next season.

Penallta ensured they will join Newbridge and Brecon in rising into the Championship next season after they won 29-20 at Bedlinog to push Brynmawr out of third place in Division 1 East.

It was a similar situation in Division 1 West Central, where Ammanford overtook Kenfig Hill to bag the third promotion slot with a 42-16 home win over Glynneath. Owain Thomas and Liam Smith both scored two tries each for the home side with Ellis Lewis and Jake Baker also crossing.
