The Admiral National Leagues will kick off the 2023-24 season on Saturday, 2 September and the league campaigns are scheduled to be completed by the end of March 2024.

This season there are no clashes with the Autumn Series matches and one of the Six Nations fixtures is on a Sunday, allowing clubs to play the day before.

There is only one weekend that clashes with a Wales World Cup fixture in the Pool stages, while a change to the format of the Cup matches has also released extra weekends. Cup dates for all league levels are due to be announced in the near future, so, too, will be the fixtures for the women’s game in Wales.

The number of national leagues below the Indigo Premiership has increased from 25 to 26 with a split in the Admiral Championship from one league of 14 clubs into two (Championship East and Championship West).

“Returning to home and away matches in all divisions following COVID restrictions made last season difficult for us. The weather also had a detrimental effect and there were a number of other factors that forced us to extend the season late into May,” said WRU Community Game Board chair, John Manders.

“We will be back to normal in the 2023-24 campaign with relegation returning. We also hope that all games will be completed and I’d like to wish all 283 clubs signed up for the season the best of luck..”

The split in the Championship will see Division 1 East runners-up Brecon join the top three from Division 1 West Central – Bonymaen, Dunvant, Ammanford – and the top three from Division 1 West – Llangennech, Crymych Newcastle Emlyn – in creating the Championship West league in conjunction with last season’s survivors, Narberth, Maesteg Quins, Tata Steel and Ystalyfera.

In Championship East, Newbridge and Penallta have risen from Division 1 East and are joined by three newcomers from Division 1 East Central, St Peter’s, Rumney and Treorchy. They will test themselves against existing Championship Clubs Bargoed, Beddau, Bedwas, Cardiff Met, Cross Keys, Glamorgan Wanderers and Ystrad Rhondda.

Newbridge, who won the Division 1 Cup and the Division 1 East title, will kick-off with a local derby at the Welfare Ground against Cross Keys. In the West, Bonymaen welcome Ystalyfera for their opening game.
