Cup draws set-up some classic derbies – including Cardiff v Newport!

Cardiff won the Indigo Premiership Cup by beating Newport in the final last season

WRU Premiership Cup winners Cardiff will face the team they beat to take the title at Principality Stadium last season when they open their defence in the opening round on 23 September.

The two great rivals, who also met in the Indigo Premiership play-off semi-finals, will do battle once again at the Arms Park. Pontypridd will host Merthyr in another derby clash. 

Premiership new boys Pontypool, who went through last season unbeaten in winning both the Admiral Championship and the WRU Championship Cup, will head to Aberavon, while the other promoted team, Neath, will host Ebbw Vale. 

All ties in the first round of each cup competition are due to be played on Saturday, 23 September.

With Championship Cup winners Pontypool having earned promotion, the title will be handed to a different club. Runners-up Ystrad Rhondda have received a bye in the first round along with the winners of last season’s Division 1 Cup, Newbridge. 

Last season’s Division 1 title winners St Peter’s will host Bedwas, while Bargoed, who finished third in the Championship last season, head to Cross Keys. Division 1 West champions Llanegennech will welcome Ystalyfera and newly promoted Crymych will host Narberth in an all-Pembrokeshire tie.

Nant Conwy were beaten in the final of the Division 1 Cup by Newbridge at Principality Stadium and will launch their bid to return to the home of Welsh rugby with a trip to Bala in the first round. The unbeaten North Wales champions will be among the favourites for the title.

Division 2 Cup holders Morriston will have home advantage over Felinfoel following their promotion, while the team they beat in the final, Aberdare, head to Rhydyfelin. Newly promoted Abercwmboi will welcome Rhiwbina and Division 2 East champions Talywain will entertain Ynysddu, who were promoted with them.

Abertillery BG will be hoping they can convert the consistency that earned them a league and cup double in Division 3 last season by stepping up a grade in Division 2 East. Their first Cup assignment will be away at Treharris in the opening round, while the team they beat at Principality Stadium last season, Vardre, have a bye.

Division 3A West title winners Lampeter Town head to Fishguard & Goodwick for their opening cup clash, while Division 3 West B winners Amman Untied sit out the first round.

Bryncethin, who completed a league and cup double in an invincible campaign in Division 4 last season, will head to Taibach in the opening round of the Division 3 Cup. Nantyglo, who they beat at Principality Stadium to win the cup, are also on the road as they kick-off at Llanhilleth.

Division 4 East Central champions Llandaff will travel to Wattstown, the side their pipped for promotion last season.

Division 5 Cup winners Crumlin will chase further glory in a higher standard after they coupled their victory at Principality Stadium over Ferndale with a title triumph in Division 5 East. They will host New Panteg, while Ferndale, who lost only once to winning Division 1 East Central, head to Whiteheads. 

Tonna, who beat Crumlin the the Shield final the season before, won Division 5 West Central to earn promotion and will head to Pontardawe, who were runners-up to them in the league title race.

Crumlin won the Division 5 Cup Final last season.
