Narberth’s ‘Mr Versatile’ Lewys Gibby helped himself to his second hat-trick of tries as The Otters breezed into the second round of the WRU Championship Cup with a 38-10 win at Crymych.
Gibby, who plays at full back, scrum half and centre, came off the bench to stun the home side with his mazy running that earned him three of Narberth’s six tries as they extended their unbeaten run this season to four games and took their points tally in those games to 186.
It was close in the first half with each side opening their accounts with a try before the visitors edged ahead 12-10 at the break. But that was as good as it got for Crymych, who conceded 26 points without reply in a second half dominated by Gibby.

Full back Sion Jones added a brace of tries and centre Dean James got another. Ashley Sutton nailed two conversions and Ianto Griffiths added two more to complete the scoring.
Cross Keys overhauled a 13-point deficit at Pandy Park to hit back and give visiting Bargoed a tough time before eventually going down 31-28. The Bulls ran in five tries, but after leading 24-20 at the break found themselves trailing by a point early in the second half.

Josh Congreve ran in two ties for Keys and Harvey Reader added a third as they went toe-to-toe with their visitors. Drew Musa knocked over two conversions and three penalties, his final kick bringing his side back to within a score before time ran out.
Morgan Edwards, Matthew Lewis, Josh Prosser, Rhys Thomas and Ashley Norton bagged the Bargoed tries. Prosser also landed three conversions.
Maesteg Quins gained ample revenge over Newcastle Emlyn a week on from their 27-26 home defeat in the Admiral Championship. Back at the same venue, the mighty Quins used home advantage to run out winners by 38-17.
Newcastle Emlyn had tries from Dyfed Morgan and Gareth Thomson, with Dan Davies kicking seven points.

Bedwas were able to make it a quickfire double over last season’s Division 1 East Central champions St Peter’s by following up their 33-17 home win in the Admiral Championship the previous weekend with a 48-23 win in the Welsh capital.

With four tries already in the bag by the break, thanks to two each for Adam Wiliams and Rhys Morgans, Bedwas held a 28-17 interval lead.  Williams went on to complete his hat-trick and wing Owain Jones also scored after the break.

Rumney had two tries from centre Cain Sutton among six tries in their 41-12 triumph at The Oval against Treorchy. Sol Matthews and Harry Jarrett joined Sutton in steering the visitors int a 19-5 interval lead before their motored ahead after the break.

Cardiff Met had the deadly accurate boot of Ross McKay to thank for their 36-17 win at Beddau. He kicked 21 points to go with tries from Horace Hopper, Keian Richards and Kian Evans.

Llangennech ran in six tries in their 39-26 home win over Ystalyfera despite fielding a much-changed side. Jordan Saunders scored two of them and Luke Davies converted three and added a penalty.
