The visitors drew first blood with the first of their two tries, but Rogers’ brace ensured Rumney were leading 17-10 at the break. Back row man Alfy Johnson made it a hat-trick of home tries and Jake Hillman added a conversion.

James Dixon converted the opening score for Bedwas and it was his boot that kept the visitors in the game as he landed three successive penalties either side of the interval to make it a one-point game at 17-16.

Rumney recovered their poise through a try by replacement Marvin Hutchings, which Hillman improved, but a final flourish from Bedwas brought them another converted try that got them back to within a point for the second time.

In the battle between last season’s Division 1 East champions, Newbridge, and the winners of the Divisions East Central crown, St Peter’s, it was the Gwent side that came out on top in the Welsh capital 26-20

Wing Mason Rogers crossed twice for the visitors, while outside half Simon Veall and replacement hooker Scott Evans also scored. Robbie Turley converted there of them as Newbridge turned a 7-3 interval advantage into their third win of the season.

Ystrad Rhondda remain unbeaten at the top after their hard-fought 23-20 triumph at Beddau. An Ewan Roberts try converted by Hywel Chatham gave Beddau an early lead, yet by the break Ystrad were 13-10 ahead after conjuring up two tries of their own through Cavan Davies and Kurtis Williams. Rhyus Truelove added a penalty.

In the second half, Beddau hit back within three minutes of the re-start with a try from Zephyr Melnyk that Chatham improved. Chatham then made it 20-13 with another penalty with half-an-hour to go.

The home side hung on for 26 minutes before Lucas Welch crossed for a try that Lewis Williams converted to level matters. Then Williams stole the show, and gave prop Tom Foulkes plenty to celebrate on his 150th appearance for the club, with an added time penalty that won the game.

Second placed Bargoed had try doubles from Keaton Davies and Logan Franklin among their half-dozen in a 48-24 home win over Cross Keys.

In the Championship West, Brecon and Narberth are the only two unbeaten teams after they both posted their fourth successive victories. Brecon lead by two points, but were fortunate to escape with a 35-30 win at Trebanos despite scoring six tries.

Geraint Powell scored two of them and there were other touchdowns from Jake Crockett, Geraint Walsh, Tomos Davies and Jordan Charles. Dion McIntosh kicked a penalty and conversion.

Narberth stripped Dunvant of their unbeaten tag as they won 26-8., while Jordan Saunders scored two tries for the second weekend in a row as Llangennech beat Maesteg Quins 33-9. Osian Evans converted all six home tries to hoist them into third place.
