Their hard-fought, 26-7 victory at The Wern, in Merthyr, means they will be in Conference A next season, while Coleg Y Cymoed’s 34-24 triumph over Coleg Gwent in the relegation match means they retained their status.

Scrum half Jayden Grey stole the show with a hat-trick of tries that enabled Gower to complete a clean-sweep of their nine matches in Conference B this season. There was a fourth try from man of the match Seb Davies, while outside half Sam Williamson completed the scoring with three conversions.

Newport HS pushed the only team to beat them on Conference B this season all the way and it was only 7-0 at the break. Grey’s second try doubled the lead before Newport hit back with a corner try from lock Rhys Tudor-Jones and Finley Chamberlain converted off the touchline.

That put the game back into the frying pan, but the carrying power of Gower’s superb back row eventually told and after Grey had completed his hat-trick with aa dot down I the left corner, Davies raced clear for the try of the night.

“It was a nice way to end our season and it’s great to have remained unbeaten all year as a school side. For many of us it was out last time playing in this tournament, so it is nice to have given next year’s team the chance to play in Conference A,” said Davies, who captain’s the Ospreys U18 regional side.

“We felt we could have competed against the sides Conference A this season, but now next year’s squad will have that opportunity. That’s fantastic.”
