They may have come into the game as everyone’s favourites but they ran into some determined and tough opposition from the Barry-based Islanders side. Both teams have come a long way in a short space of time and despite having the better of the first half, the Timberwolves found it really hard going after the break.

Two tries apiece for flying wing Lilly May Welsby and back row star Kath Winder were at the heart of a 29-5 interval scoreline. Full back Swyn Jones also got in on the act, while skipper Macey Phillips drove over from close range to bag the first try for the Islanders.

There were plenty of big hits and loads of endeavour from both sides as they put up another great display of running rugby on Day 5 of #RTP24.

The second half was a much tighter affair and there were brief hopes of a comeback when Riley Strange took a quick tap penalty before ploughing over for the Islanders second try in the second half. That cut the gap to 19 points.

While the Islanders showered themselves in glory by refusing to give in, the Timberwolves responded with two more tries to reassert their authority. Jane Davies and Sian Cleaton, who had earlier picked up a yellow card for a bit of back chat to the referee, scored them and the trophy went west.
