Wales Women international Gwenllian Pyrs has got straight to work as the first Urdd WRU (rugby development) apprentice.

Based in North West Wales, Gwenllian – who has eight caps for Wales and also plays for RGC Women and Caernarfon – will work with the Urdd Chwaraeon and WRU sports development teams to deliver rugby and other sports to children in and out of schools.

WRU Entreprise Manager  Greg Woods said: “It’s another positive example of our partnership with the Urdd growing from strength to strength and the increased rugby activity will only add to a vibrant alternative rugby menu in North Wales”.

Gary Lewis, Director of Sport at the Urdd adds, “We are extremely happy to announce the appointment of  Gwenllian as our first female rugby apprentice in North Wales.  The Urdd’s aim is to offer a full range of activities for children and young people in the Welsh language across Wales and we are excited to be working with the WRU to offer more girls rugby.

“I’m confident that Gwenllian’s energy and enthusiasm for rugby will inspire our members and increase the number of those participating in girls rugby to create future Welsh stars! We already have hundreds of children participating in Urdd rugby activities across North Wales and we are confident with the appointment of Gwenllian this is sure to rise in the future.”
