Over 500 pupils from Gowerton Comprehensive School are looking forward to their annual Millennium Stadium outing to show their support for former pupil and Wales and Ospreys outside half Dan Biggar when Wales face Fiji at the home of Welsh rugby on Friday (KO 7.30pm).

The Swansea school is making the most of the ticket offer available for Wales v Fiji which means that for every eight junior tickets bought by clubs or school groups (at £10), an adult goes free. Gowerton Comprehensive has supported Friday night international fixtures at the Millennium Stadium for a number of years and watched Dan make his Wales debut there against Canada in November 2008.

As a thank you to the school for their continued support, the Ospreys and Wales outside half spent time with the next wave of kickers from the school teams, giving them practical advice and tips on how to handle the pressure of the No 10 jersey.

Biggar will be wearing the No 10 jersey he wore against Samoa for the corresponding Friday night fixture last November and during the two-Test summer tour of New Zealand in June for his third consecutive Friday night Autumn Series appearance.

“Friday night at the Millennium Stadium under lights is a very special occasion and I’d love to be a part of it again this year,” said Dan.

“Fiji are tough opposition, they won’t be a pushover whatsoever, and it would be great to put that Welsh shirt on once again and get the victory that the supporters from my former school and all over Wales deserve.

“I’ve had some brilliant times at the school and I will never forget the support that the teachers and the pupils have shown me and the rest of the Wales team.

“The WRU offer for schools is a fantastic opportunity for all children out there to get involved. My former school has been coming to the Stadium for several years and enjoy a superb experience every year.”

Eleven-year-old Tom Ham was one of the school’s rugby players to benefit from the session.

“It was really good having Dan here to give us some tips. We did some spiral kicks and some kicks to touch and had a cross bar challenge.

“Basically we were practicing our vision of the game for kicking. I play fly half for the school so I’ll take the tips from Dan on board when I’m playing a match and hopefully I’ll get better.

“I’m really looking forward to the Fiji game. I’ve been to the Millennium Stadium before when I played for Swansea schools.

Hopefully I’ll play there when I’m older but for now I’m just looking forward to watching Dan play

Kevin Lockett, Head of PE at Gowerton, will accompany pupils to the family-friendly fixture priced at £10 for children with exclusive deals for schools and junior group bookings.

“There is an incredible sense of excitement among the kids,” said Mr Lockett. “And they’ve been are asking for a while now ‘How long now sir?’”

“For some of them this opportunity will be their first outing to the Millennium Stadium thanks to the school’s hard work and the incentives from the Welsh Rugby Union.”
