Harris Can Cause Damage – Hansen

Wales coach Steve Hansen has brought in Cardiff’s Iestyn Harris to replace Saracens man Tom Shanklin at inside-centre when Wales play France in the final game of the RBS Six Nations in Paris on Saturday.

Harris has been touted as a potential star inside centre by fans and the media since his switch from Rugby League, but both player and coach have publicly stated it is not the preferred position for the former Leeds Rhinos player.

But with Harris’ growing influence on the park and instinctive ability, Hansen will give Harris his chance against the French.

‘Up until now Iestyn wasn’t ready. It would have been like chucking a two year old in the pool and expecting him to swim,’ he said.

‘But from what we have seen, and the damage he has done when he has come on in recent Tests, it says to me that he is ready.

We will hit back vows Jones

‘All credit to Tom Shanklin as a man and as a player, we had a chat with him and he agreed with us that it was time to experiment with Iestyn.

Rugby has been difficult for Iestyn – he has been chucked in at the deep end and he has had a tough club season,’ added Hansen.

Wales go into the French match knowing a loss will not only leave them with the dreaded wooden spoon, it will mark the worst consecutive run of defeats (six) in the country’s proud rugby history.
