Wales prop Adam Jones kicks off healthy living campaign

As part of the Welsh Rugby Union’s response to Health Challenge Wales, national squad players will be visiting a school in every Unitary Authority in the Principality before the end of the summer term – starting with Adam Jones who today visited pupils in Bryntirion Comprehensive in Bridgend and Cymer Afan Comprehensive in Afan Nedd.

Adam, accompanied by Welsh Rugby Union Development Officers, took part in short rugby skills and agility sessions in the schools, before the children got a chance to pick his brain for tips on what it takes to be an international rugby player. At Cymer Afan comprehensive, he was asked about his favourite types of training, what is diet consisted of and what tips he could give to youngsters wanting to be rugby players.


Adam said, “I know from first hand how important it is to stay fit and healthy from an early age. Whether you want to play international sport or simply enjoy an active, healthy life later on, sport and healthy eating play a vital role.


“My tips to youngsters would be to eat and drink healthily and make sure you stick at what you want to do – even if you get knocked back. I didn’t always get picked as a youngster but I stuck at it and finally achieved my goals.”


Other Wales players will be involved in similar visits around Wales this summer and following on from Adams visits today, Wales and Scarlets backrow Dafydd Jones will visit schools in mid and north Wales this week. He will be visiting Ysgol Bro Myrddin, Machynlleth, Ysgol Eifionydd, Porthmadoc and Ysgol Bodedern, near Holyhead on Tuesday and Ysgol John Bright, Llandudno, Ysgol Brynhyfryd, Ruthin, Alun High School, Mold and Ysgol Morgan Llwyd, Wrexham on Wednesday.


Fellow Wales stars Gareth Cooper, Dwayne Peel and Mark Jones will also be making visits to schools across south Wales over the next few week.
