James Loxton scored five tries – taking his tally to eight in two British & Irish Cup games – as Cardiff racked up a half century in their 51-20 win at Birmingham & Solihull Bees in the British and Irish Cup.

The Welshmen look favourites reach the knockout stages from their pool, while Ayr picked up their first win in the competition with a 28-13 win over Rotherham Titans, with Frazier Climo slotting six penalties. The game between Pontypridd and Doncaster Knights was postponed.

The Irish representatives in the competition have continued their country’s glittering 2009 form with an unbeaten start in the new competition.

Leinster and Munster top their respective pools after two rounds of the competition, while the Ravens are only kept from the top spot of Pool C by London Welsh’s superior points difference.

With only the group winners from the round-robin, five game pool stage qualifying for the semi-finals in April, competition is becoming fierce.

Leinster followed up their opening day win over Plymouth with a second narrow victory as Shaun Berne’s four penalties secured a 12-10 defeat of Cornish Pirates in Pool A.

Newport and Plymouth Albion played out a 3-3 draw, which keeps the Welsh side unbeaten and in contention at the top.

Nottingham kept it tight at the top of Pool B as late tries from Tim Usasz and Tim Streather secured a 14-3 win over Neath, their second win of the competition.

Dave Kilcoyne, Danny Barnes and Ronan O’Mahony all scored tries as Munster maintained their 100 per cent record with an 18-6 win over Bristol.

London Welsh lead the way in Pool C after Tom Brown and Paul Sampson each scored a double in a comprehensive 36-7 win at Aberavon.

Bedford Blues secured their first win with a 36-24 win over Llanelli.
