Defeat disappoints Edwards

Darren Edwards was left disappointed as his side lost 26 v 16 to Leinster at Rodney Parade yesterday, but believes his side are still developing and can take away a lot of positives from the game against last year’s Magners League runners-up.

The Dragons deserved to come away with some recognition for their performance in front of their home fans after five successive games away from home and now Edwards knows he needs to lift his side ahead of Treviso’s visit at the weekend.

“We have to reflect on our performance here because it’s important we develop a Dragons style of play and we didn’t play badly,” said Edwards.

“I thought we looked dangerous in attack and it was one of our best defensive displays, particularly in the contact area.

“A number of players really stepped up their games. I thought Lewis Evans was outstanding in the collisions and Toby Faletau is developing as well.

“There’s an exciting back row coming here and it’s going to be an interesting selection next week with Dan Lydiate and Gavin Evans available again.”

“It’s important we stick to the brand of rugby we have started upon. If we can get consistency in our style of play we can be successful.”
