Bowdy Davies signs for Neath

Neath have announced the capture of Llanelli speedster Bowdy Davies ahead of their visit to Sardis Road on Saturday.

After a difficult period in the last few months of 2012, the Welsh All Blacks hit a good run of form over the Christmas period and have been boosted further by the signing of Davies. The wing comes straight into contention for Neath’s clash away to Pontypridd on Saturday.

A fleet-footed finisher from Ystradgynlais, Davies was top try-scorer for Llanelli with 11 last season and is dual-registered with Cwmllynfell from whom Neath recently signed the rapidly-developing young No. 8 Steffan Jones.

Davies’ signing comes on the back of another fine showing from a Neath winger.

Young Dafydd Howells made his Premiership debut in Neath’s 22-7 Boxing Day success at Aberavon – their third successive away win.

In the mud of the Talbot Athletic Ground, Abercrave product Howells showed remarkable maturity in a composed debut.

He registered his first points for the Welsh All Blacks when he landed a first-half penalty after goal-kicking outside-halves Dean Cummins and David Langdon had both been forced to leave the pitch injured.

Howells was also instrumental in Aaron Bramwell’s try and, on the evidence of his first 80 minutes for the club, is destined for great things.
