Bridgend hit back against Bedwas

Bedwas surrendered a first half lead to allow Bridgend to take the spoils in a keenly contested game at the Bridge Field with a 14-25 victory.

The first quarter hour was evenly contested with neither side creating an opportunity to score.

Bedwas broke the deadlock after 16 minutes when veteran No 8 Deri Mattravers broke off the back of a scrum to run in under the sticks, Richard Powell converted.

Bridgend bounced back with a Ross Jones penalty before adding a try of their own from Adam Williams, Jones missing the conversion before Mattravers added his second try again from the back of a scrum as the Bedwas forwards shunted their opponents backwards, Powell converted.

Bridgend tried to get back into the game but made errors at crucial stages.

With the wind at their backs for the second half Bridgend were a transformed side.

Full back Jamie Murphy crossed for a try out wide converted by Jones to put Bridgend ahead for the first time.

Jones added a second penalty, as both sides vied for a match clinching score. It finally came Bridgend’s way as a break by Jones put right wing Luke Morgan in for a try. Jones missed the conversion but Bedwas could not breach the deficit as Bridgend held on for a deserved win.

Next Saturday, Bedwas travel to the Arms Park, Cardiff for their last Principality Premiership game of the 2013-14 season, kick-off is at 2-30pm.
