It is a re-run of the final of the inaugural season of the competition last year, although Coleg y Cymoedd was then known as Coleg Morgannwg.
The DC Thomas Cup Final also takes tomorrow with Cardiff Schools Under 11 taking on Pontypridd Schools at 3.45pm.
Both Coleg y Cymoedd and Coleg Sir Gar go into the final knowing a fair bit about each other. Although Coleg Morgannwg were downed by Sir Gar in an a hugely entertaining final last year at the home of Welsh rugby, both sides have impressed again this season with a number of players from the two outfits making it into Allan Lewis’ Wales Under 18 side.
So who will come out on top this time around? Sir Gar are the defending champions and won’t want to relinquish their title, while Cymoedd have revenge on their agenda.
When the two sides met earlier in the competition, which was expanded this year following its successful inauguration the season before, Cymoedd beat Sir Gar 36-23 at Cardiff Arms Park before Euros Evans’ men turned the tables in their home fixture in early March.
“Cymoedd are up there with the best sides in the UK at this age – we’re fortunate to be able to join them in the final,” said Sir Gar coach Evans.
“Last year we were firm favourites but I think it will be vice versa this time. It will be a big challenge to get a result as they are well prepared and well coached. We have beaten them this season and we know they will be full of confidence.
“But we’ve got some quality players in our side too and have everybody more or less available. Tom Phillips will captain the side from the back row and he’s played well for Wales Under 18 this season.”
Meanwhile, Clive Jones, Director of Rugby at Cymoedd, is hoping his side can repeat the sort of performance that saw them dispatch Sir Gar in Cardiff earlier this season.
His side also boast a number of Wales Under 18 internationals, including hooker and captain Liam Belcher who has featured regularly for Pontypridd this season.
“We’re good to watch – the way we play means there will be some mistakes but overall, we stick to our principles,” said Jones.
“Sir Gar have been out there on their own for some time now and now we’re chasing them.”
Whoever comes out on top in both finals, it is sure to be another Millennium Stadium day to remember for everyone involved.
There is free entry for both games and access is via Gate 3, 30 minutes before the respective kick-off times and the WRU Wednesday Under 18 final will also be shown live on S4C.
