In April 2013, in a club match against Llandaff, scrum-half Dylan Rees suffered what seemed like an innocuous head injury, after a tackle only 40 seconds from full-time. Sadly Rees, a cousin of BBC commentator Jonathan Davies, collapsed and was rushed to hospital where he has spent the last year.
Present at the game today and raising funds for the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust for injured players will be his father Graham and brother Aled.
For head coach and former player Gareth Williams, it will be an emotional day.
“It’s been an extremely tough time for his family so any help we can give them on the day will be very special.
“We already have plans to hold a golf day and concert next year.”
CRCC, a Welsh speaking side based in Pontcanna, travelled the length and breadth of the country on their way to the Millennium Stadium and they have enjoyed the cup run to date according to Williams.
“Those games up and down the country have really made our Cup run enjoyable,” he added.
“Clwb like to play rugby the right way. We have some decent runners outwide and like to score tries. As coaches we like to watch attractive rugby.
“These boys are amateurs, so it’s their opportunity to be special for a day and play at the best stadium in the world. We’ll have a cracking day out, win or lose.”
