The Welsh whistler will also conclude the championship when he takes control of England’s home match at Twickenham against Ireland on 17 March.

England’s Wayne Barnes will be at the helm for Wales’s first game, against Ireland in Dublin on February 5 while a week later Frenchman Romain Poite will control the Cardiff clash against Scotland.

Australian-based Kiwi Steve Walsh will be centre stage at Twickenham when Warren Gatland takes his troops to face England on February 25 with Ireland’s George Clancy controling the game against Italy at the Millennium Stadium.

World Cup final referee Craig Joubert will take charge of Wales’ final game of the campaign in Cardiff on March 17 when France will be the visitors.

Appointments have also been made for Australia’s two-match tour to Europe at the end of this month. France’s Romain Poite will take charge of the match against the Barbarians at Twickenham on November 26, while South Africa’s Jonathan Kaplan will referee the match against Wales at the Millennium Stadium on December 3.

“We have made the appointments immediately after Rugby World Cup 2011 so match officials have the best possible preparation period ahead of the RBS Six Nations, after what has been a physically demanding year of Test Rugby,” said IRB Referees Manager Paddy O’Brien.
