The former Ireland flanker feels that his team’s attacking style of play can have a positive impact on Wales head coach Warren Gatland as he prepares to name his squad for the two-Test tour of South Africa in June.
Wales will play three matches in the Rainbow Nation as they do battle with the Springboks on June 14 and 21 in Durban and Nelspruit respectively, after earlier facing the Eastern Kings at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, and Easterby hopes the Scarlets will have a strong contingent on the plane.
“A few of our guys have tasted international rugby this season. Liam Williams had his chance and took it a couple of weeks ago,” said Easterby.
“A few of the boys have kicked on in recent weeks and will come into contention if we continue playing the type of rugby we played against Connacht. Hard grounds suit our style of rugby and I am sure in South Africa it would be something similar.”
The Scarlets held on to beat Connacht 32-30 after the Galway club staged a late fight back on Sunday. But, despite giving the fans an eight-try classic, Easterby has warned his players of the need to be more astute in their decision-making when they host Zebre a week on Saturday.
“We had really good periods, got to 25-11 and then they started throwing it around and so did we. We coughed up a couple of possessions and got drawn into that type of game,” added Easterby.
“When it is on, it is on, but a lot of the time it is on after eight or nine phases and we were guilty of forcing things at times. It’s about getting the balance right, but we got five points which is the most important thing.”
