Full back Matthew Jarvis was once again top scorer, as he helped himself to 20 points in the game, including one of his side’s five tries. Merthyr were 20-8 ahead at the break. Other tries came from hooker Andrew Brown, number eight and skipper Andy Powell, outside half Dean Gunter, and wing Alex Howman.
Swansea maintained their winning ways with a ten try, 66-10 home win over Newbridge. They racked up a bonus point in the first half, when Andrew Claypole crossed in the corner, and there was a hat trick for Keelan Giles. Ian Brooks kicked five conversions, and Phil Jones added three more when he came on.
Pontypool built on their triumph over Merthyr by dispatching Llanharan 60-18. The visitors took the lead with a penalty, but Clayton Gullis responded before Josh Hurley grabbed the lead with the first try of the game.
Llanharan then lost a player to the sin bin to allow acting skipper Jamie Geune to cross for a second home try. The visitors scored a try on the stroke of half time to cut the deficit to 25-8, and then got another at the start of the second period to cut the gap to 11 points. But a four-try burst, all of which were converted by Gullis, took Pontypool clear.
RGC 1404 had a hat trick of tries from Carwyn ap Myrddin to thank for their 41-6 home win over Bridgend Athletic. The north Walians had grabbed a bonus point before the break, with Danny Cross, Hugh Worthington, and Ianto Parri joining ap Myrddin in crossing the visitors’ line. There were three more tries in the second half, as ap Myrddin completed his hat trick, and Cam Davies also got in on the act.
Beddau beat Glynneath 10-3, while reigning champions Bargoed had seven tries in their 41-17 triumph at Narberth, the first of which came after only ten seconds from scrum half James Pizey
