The 6ft 5in South African joined the Dragons at the beginning of the 2014/15 season and quickly became a permanent fixture in the second row, as well as a crowd favourite.

Prior to his move to Wales he shone in the Cheetahs team that reached the play-offs in the 2013 Super Rugby season.

Landman has made 68 appearances for the Welsh Region and believes the Men of Gwent are on the up, which is testament to the Dragons current vision: “I can see the Region going from strength to strength and that’s something I want to be part of.

“I am currently focussing on giving my best for the Dragons and I want to try and get the team winning consistently – we can definitely take the next step.”

Landman, who will remain at the Region until 2019, continued: “We have shown that we can win at home in all competitions by playing a good brand of rugby, so we just need to find a good balance away from Rodney Parade whilst remaining consistent.

“Cory Hill, who has just received his International honours for Wales, has demonstrated to the other great prospects we have that they can achieve from the Dragons, and we also have quality, experienced players throughout our squad who, I believe, will make the Region better.”

Landman, having featured for the Dragons for the last two and a half years, will soon become Welsh qualified through his long-term residency in Wales. He added: “It’s any player’s dream to win international honours, but my first priority is to play well for the Dragons and whatever happens will happen.”

Dragons Head Coach, Kingsley Jones added: “The fact he has had interest from many teams in France, England and here in Wales is credit to his performances since his arrival from South Africa. It also makes his decision to stay at the Dragons more significant and I am delighted he’ll be with us for the next two seasons.

“He is a very influential player for us both off and on the pitch.”
