Pembroke coach urges players to control emotions in Bowl final

Pembroke forwards coach Kyle Davies has urged his players to keep their emotions in check ahead of the WRU National Bowl final against Porthcawl on Sunday.

It will be the first time any of his players will have played at the Principality Stadium but Davies is confident the Division 3 West A side can come out on top. But Davies insists his players are extremely excited at the prospect of playing at the Principality Stadium.

“None of the boys have played in front of the TV cameras before,” said Davies.
“That’s going to be a big thing and they’ll obviously have it in the back of their minds. We’ve got seven or eight buses from Pembroke and loads of people will be driving up so having a big support will help us.

“But I think the boys need to keep their emotions under control and try and forget what’s going on around us. Hopefully we can just concentrate on the game and come out on top.

“We are really excited to be playing at the Principality Stadium especially as the boys have never played here before. We’ve beaten some very good teams to get this far and the boys are really excited to get out here on Sunday and to give it a good bash.

“All of the boys watch the Six Nations and the Autumn Internationals played at the Principality Stadium on TV and it would be a great honour to play here ourselves.”
Pembroke will come up against another Division 3 outfit in Porthcawl on Sunday but Davies insists they will not focus too much on the opposition.

Having built their game around a strong set-piece and physical pack of forwards Davies reckons their success is down to embracing an expansive style of rugby.
He said: “The last few years we have been well known for having a big pack and keeping it tight but this year some of the boys coming through from our youth side have added some real pace and x factor into our side.

“Our No 8 Dom Coleman and our blindside flanker Sam Smith are two of our star players. They are two big ball carriers although they look more like props than back-row players.

“But they are two very special players that we’ve got in our ranks. We’ve had a few young boys who have come up from our youth team like Elliot Evans out wide.

“There’s a few special boys who will hopefully do themselves and the club proud on the weekend. We haven’t looked at them in too much depth because we want to concentrate on our own game.”
