A SOUND TRACK FOR WALES

Share this page:

The Welsh Rugby Union has teamed up with the Wales on Sunday and Real Radio to offer fans the chance to pick the signature tune for Wales when they play England and Scotland at the Millennium Stadium.

The WRU bosses liked the suggestions in Wales on Sunday last weekend and have teamed up with the Sunday newspaper, along with Real Radio to ask fans to come up with some more ideas to find a song to inspire Wales when they run out against England on 23 August and Scotland on 30 August.

If you send your suggestions to Wales on Sunday (see address below), you have the chance of winning a pair of tickets to watch Wales’ pre-World Cup tests against England and Scotland. You must write to Wales on Sunday for a chance of winning the tickets, however, you can click on the link below to simply give us your suggestions on an appropriate song.

The suggestions should be based on the WRU’s new slogan ‘Together, Wales in Union’ and the Wales on Sunday will print a shortlist of five in next Sunday’s paper.

Then Real Radio will then take up the mantle and feature each of the songs you have chosen on their sports phone-in, the week before Wales take on Ireland in Dublin.

A ‘Pop Idol’ style public vote will determine which one of our shortlist wins the day. The lucky winner will be at the match to hear their chosen song in person, as the prize also includes a pair of tickets for each of the two World Cup warm-up games at the Millennium Stadium in August.

Where more than one fan nominates the same song the winner will be chosen at random and the WRU reserve the right for editorial control over the shortlist.
‘The song doesn’t need to contain the words of the WRU slogan,’ said WRU commercial manager Gwyn Thomas. ‘But it does need to reflect this theme. We would also like to find something modern, which doesn’t negate the traditional side to our game and/or something characteristically Welsh, although neither of these attributes is a criteria for entry.
‘Realistically we need songs that have already been recorded and that people will be able to recognise and identify with, but we are hoping to get a wide variety of suggestions.
‘We will be consulting the Wales squad and management team before reaching the final short-list, but ultimately the song will be chosen entirely by public vote.’

To enter the competition to win a pair of tickets for Wales v England and Wales v Scotland, send your song suggestions to:
