Dragons Head Coach Paul Turner said, “Colin showed through his performances last year that he has great leadership qualities and we feel with the amount of emerging talent we have he is the right sort of guy to drive the region forward.

“Kevin did a very good job for us last season despite injury and international duties and he will continue in a leadership role.”

“It is an honour and a pleasure to be made Dragons captain,” said Colin. “I enjoyed how hard we worked as players and coaches last year. It was probably one of the hardest years I have ever had and am looking forward to putting in the same effort this year.

“I have always said captaincy isn’t about one person but working hard together as a group and I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.”

Charvis made 26 appearances for the Dragons last season and scored three tries. He is unavailable for this week’s Magners League game due to a slight injury he picked up on the weekend.

He has 93 Welsh caps to his name and jointly holds the international try scoring record for a forward alongside Italian lock Carlo Checchinato.

The Dragons play Ulster on Saturday night with Turner expected to name his starting line-up on Friday.
