Wales were still in the hunt at halftime having held the strong England side to an 8-3 lead but the visitors turned up the heat in the second half to deny the dogged Welsh a victory.

England ran in three tries, including touchdowns for newcomers Lizell Heather and Harriet Mills. Fly half Claire Garner also stroked over three penalties and a conversion.

Wales began the game strongly and took the game to England but they couldn’t convert their opportunities into points and both sides had to settle with a penalty each. England’s Garner was successful with the boot for England while Elinor Snowsill added the points for Wales.

Second row Mills handed England the lead in the 21st minute with a well crafted try to give England a narrow 8-3 lead at the break. England raced out of the blocks in the second half to see Hunt score before Garner increased the lead with a penalty.

Wales hit back with a 53rd minute try through centre Adi Taviner after some good pressure on England’s line, but the comeback was short lived with Garner adding another penalty.

With England leading 19-8, substitute Heather then sealed the victory for England on 80 minutes with a slashing break and some strong running to cross the line and score the final try.
