Ringer returns to Arms Park roots

Ten years after he played the most recent of his 85 first team games for the Blue & Blacks, Jamie Ringer is among a host of new recruits to the Arms Park squad as the Principality Premiership champions set out to build on last season’s success story.

While the former Wales’ flanker will bring undoubted experience to the Cardiff set-up, team administrator Keith Morgan emphasised that the club’s commitment to developing young talent remains paramount.

He said, “As well as bringing in Jamie we have maintained a healthy balance between youth and experience with the addition of several players in their late teens and early twenties. These include James Loxton from the Blues Academy, another former academy product in Tom Slater, and several other Wales under-20 caps such as Ashley Sweet and Jimmy Norris.”

The Blue & Blacks have another significant addition to their back row resources is Dan Godfrey, one of the outstanding Premiership players of the last couple of years when he was with Llanelli.

Lee Jarvis and Howard Stone will continue as coaches, in charge of the backs and forwards respectively, with ex-Blues number 8 Mark Lewis assisting them

The Blue & Blacks tied up the Premiership title last April with a 16-match winning run that stretched back over six months.

They begin their new campaign with a mouth-watering home fixture against Swansea on 29 August.

Keith Morgan added, “There promises to be a feast of attractive Saturday afternoon Premiership rugby at Cardiff Arms Park in the early weeks of the new season with Swansea being followed by Neath in mid-September before we entertain Llandovery, newly-promoted Carmarthen Quins and local rivals Bedwas and Pontypridd.”
