Since joining up with Ponty from Bridgend back in 2005, Strong has imposed himself as a natural leader on the field of play, and has held the status of club captain since 2007.

A proud moment for player and club was when Strong lifted the Konica Minolta Cup for Pontypridd in 2006, and his experience and guile has been invaluable in all competitions, and all situations, over the past four seasons.

Strong said“It’s an honour to be chosen to lead such a great club, with such a great support as Pontypridd RFC.

“Along with the rest of the squad, I look forward to the challenges of the coming season, and hope to make it a successful one. We will be battling hard to make our mark in the Principality Premiership and SWALEC Cup, and with the added incentive of carrying the flag in the new British and Irish Cup.

“It will be an exciting time for everybody concerned with Ponty Rugby, and it will once more be a great honour to captain the club”.

Pontypridd Team Manager Richard Langmead voiced his delight at the confirmation of the captaincy team of Strong and Dacey.

“Nathan has led by example over a number of seasons, and I know will look to continue in the same vein this coming season.

“Gavin is by now one of the more experienced players in our squad, and is a local boy who has already shown the levels of confidence and ability to lead the team when required”.
