The first points of the game came from the boot of Dragons outside half Kerry Jenkins with a well struck penalty just inside the Blues 22.

Both side’s backlines looked dangerous with Kay Rees and Ceri Redman continually breaking the opposition’s line. But it was captain Kift who scored the first of the Dragons tries after some well structured phases from the forwards. Jenkins slotted over the conversion to make it 10-0 to the home side.

The Dragons kept the pressure on, repeatedly threatening the Blues line and were rewarded just before halftime with a driving scrum led by font rowers Caryl Thomas, Rhian Bowden and Megan York which saw Kift score her second of the game.

Within minutes of the second half the Blues lost Laura Prosser to the sin bin for continued offside and the Dragons took full advantage with winger Leila John crossing the line to give the Dragons a 20 point lead.

The score line did not deter the Blues and they struck back with second row Anna Brown crashing over the Dragons line with Laurie Harries adding the extras.

With the Blues back to full strength they continued their comeback with some lovely hands from the backline orchestrated by outside half Brogan Jones to release winger Cerys Ballett several times only to be denied by some huge cover tackles form the likes of Dragons flanker Sian Williams.

However the Blues hard work was soon rewarded when Brown’s partner in the second row, Demi Hallett, added her own try to the sc ore sheet bringing the score to 20-12.

With 15 minutes remaining the Dragons were dealt a blow when Clare Flowers received a yellow card for not rolling away at the breakdown; the Blues took this as their opportunity and after some well worked moves incorporating forwards and backs flanker Claire Malloy went over for the Blues third try.

The Dragons regained possession from the kick off and would not give the Blues the chance to score again before the final whistle to come away with a hard earned win.
