Having lost 33-0 to the Blues in Swansea in November, the Ospreys have picked up their performance levels of late and beat the Blues in the return match earlier this month so a tight encounter was expected but the Ospreys were well and truly the best side on the night.

Steffan James’ side got off to a great start, scoring five first half tries in front of a large crowd. They were particularly organised, with many notable performances, scrum half Matthew Aubrey, centre Owen Watkin and wing Keelan Giles just a few of the back line who stood out.

Prop Callum Jones scored the first, from a driving line-out with Wales Under 18 wing Rhys Gealy soon joining him on the scoresheet, both tries converted by outside half Phil Jones. Wales Under 20 squad member Watkin ran over for two fine, well-worked efforts, the first improved by Jones. The fifth try went to inside centre Keiran Williams after good link-up play between the backs and excellent support from Giles.

The Blues finally got on the scoreboard with the last play of the half, Wales Under 18 prop Kieron Assirratti claiming the touchdown after a period of pressure. Callum Hall converted taking the half-time score to 31-7. The Blues narrowed the gap with another after the break, this time to full back Curtis Povey which Hall also improved.

However, the comeback was short lived and Keelan Giles twice showed a clean pair of heels to take the Ospreys out of sight, Matthew Aubrey converting the second.

Ospreys head coach Steffan James said, “It was the best performance of the season without a doubt and to do that in the final is something special. The Blues are a quality side – we took an old fashioned thrashing from them in November – but we have really turned the season around since then and that is credit to the boys. “

Captain Will Jones added, “It was an excellent performance, you couldn’t ask for a better end to the regional season, especially after such a slow start. The last game against the Blues was really tight but the boys really switched it on tonight which is really pleasing.”
