The title holders Llandovery produced a polished performance to see off their Scarlets rivals in the opening match of the tournament. The Drovers scored five tries through Rhodri Jones, Matthew Jacobs, Aaron Warren, Aron Evans and Josh Hodson to two for the Quins to kick off their defence of the title in style.

At the other end of Round One, last year’s losing finalists Pontypridd showed their intent to win back the Foster’s 7s trophy they won in the first year of the event. Player of the tournament that year, Alex Webber, and Joel Raikes scored two tries each to help the Valley Commandoes to their straight-forward win, Dale Stuckey also touching down.

Ebbw Vale look another team to watch in the tournament, beating the Welsh Exiles 24-0 with some impressive play. Cross Keys beat Llanelli 26-7 and will play Bedwas in the Cup quarters after the Dragons side beat last year’s semi-finalists Bridgend 24-19. Aberavon will play Newport after the Wizards beat local rivals Neath 28-7 and Newport earned a 24-12 victory over RGC 1404.

The rain has cleared and there are on-pitch competitions for supporters in breaks in play including the Foster’s Passing and Obstacle Challenges with top prizes up for grabs such as Wales v Italy tickets and Under Armour gear. There is a range of food and drink on offer including sample meal deals from local restaurants Pitch, Purple Poppadom, Punk Panda and Spiros
