Moore played his first game on January 15 2000 against Llandovery at home and has since played 355 games for Aberavon, scoring 11 tries.

From Duffryn Comprehensive School ‘Buddha’ won a Wales Under 16 cap against Portugal in 1996 after playing for the U16 A team against England A. He played his senior rugby with Cwmavon and Neath and was at Neath Tertiary College, playing usually in the No 6 position though he had a soccer trial with Cardiff City.

Moore said, “Playing for Aberavon is a real pleasure and honour, however, captaining the side is truly great and a highlight of my career”. He first captained Aberavon in the 2007-8 season and has done so for five seasons, plus half a season as an acting captain.

A steelworker and a Barbarian, Moore has won Player of the Year three times; Player’s Player once and Clubman of the Year five times.

“We have seen some dark times at the club in previous seasons and I firmly believe we have turned that around. We had an exciting league campaign last season and we aim to improve on that this season,” he said.

Moore moves into his sixth year as Aberavon captain in what is the 140-year anniversary of the club.

“There is a huge history at Aberavon, with legends that have worn the famous blood and black shirt before us. It is a duty of ours to play in that shirt like it is our last game, ” he added.

Wizards Head Coach, Jason Hyatt, is already happy with the start to pre-season.

“Next week we begin week four of our preparation. During the first three weeks our emphasis has focused on conditioning and mastering our understanding of specific details of attack and defence,” Hyatt said.

“The players are working extremely hard through this phase and have shown great focus. The new players are fitting in well and the young players invited to train with the squad are working hard to show their potential. It’s very exciting knowing that this is our 140th anniversary and we all understand what a privilege it is to have the opportunity to add to Aberavon’s rich history.”
