Sir Gar head back to Sardis Road

Sir Gar head back to Sardis Road

Euros Evans

The weather has forced Coleg Sir Gar to return to the scene of their gut-wrenching defeat to arch-rivals Coleg Y Cymoedd for their TV clash with Neath Port Talbot College tonight (Tuesday, 4 December, 7.30pm).

Sir Gar were edged out 17-14 at Sardis Road last week and have had their fixture transferred to the same venue to face NPTC. Having lost twice this season, Sir Gar head coach Euros Evans knows there is now no margin for error for his side if they want to reach another final.

“We need 12 points from our last three games to reach the final and possibly have another crack at Cymoedd. We’ve got three tough games, but we are still confident,” said Evans.

“After the game against NPTC we have a local derby against Llandovery College, who have a very good pack, and then a home game against Gwent College. With the top two teams going into a straight final we can’t afford to slip up again.

“We weren’t at our best last week against Cymoedd, yet we still had two big chances to win the game at the end. It is about staying composed and learning from our mistakes.”

Even though they lost last week, Sir Gar still remained top of the table until Ysgol Glantaf squeezed past Newport HS 8-7. That took them one point clear, although having played one game more than Sir Gar and two more than third placed Cymoedd three points further back.

Cardiff & Vale College’ 29-26 win over NPTC at The Gnoll kept them in the hunt in fourth place a further three points back. They meet Llandovery College at the Arms Park on Wednesday, 5 December, while Glantaf go to
Gower College.

The champions, Cymoedd, travel to Cardiff to meet Whitchurch HS, whle Gwent College will play their second game of the week on Thursday when they head north to face Coleg Llandrillo at Parce Eirias. On Monday night they pipped Pembrokeshire College 26-24 at Ystrad Mynach, where Newport HS host Bridgend College on Wednesday.
