PLATE / BOWL DRAWS: Champs pull another home draw in last 16

Brynmawr will be at home once again in the last 16 of the WRU National Plate as they aim to extend their winning run to 10 games as they try to become the first team in the history of the tournament to successfully defend their title.

Their 16-6 win over Division 1 East Central leaders Glamorgan Wanderers in round three earned them a clash with Resolven, who are currently lying in second place in Division 2 West Central. Brynmawr, who completed the league and cup double last season, currently sit on top of Division 1 East and beat Blackwood (68-17) and Llangennech (41-0) in the earlier rounds.

Another Division 1 East side, two-time champions Penallta, face a tricky away trip to Pwllheli, while the unbeaten leaders of Division 1 North, Llandudno, will host Nelson. The Goats have won all nine league games this season and last weekend added the scalp of Blaenavon (23-6) to those of Maesteg Celtic (50-5) and Ruthin (29-18) in the Plate.

Two-time winners Ammanford will have home advantage over another unbeaten side this season, Glynneath, while there could be a repeat of this weekend’s Division 1 East Central clash between Rhiwbina and Rumney if the latter can beat Brecon in their rearranged game on 22 December.

That will be the date for the other postponed fixture to be played, between Penoced and Seven Sisters. The winners of that one will host Treorchy.

The Buns will host Division 3 East A club Oakdale in the New Year as they attempt to stay on course for a dream trip to the Principality Stadium at the end of the season. Former champions Clwb Rygbi Cymry Caerdydd will also be at home on 12 January when they host Tylorstown.

Dollgellau, who are flying the flag for north Wales in the tournament, will host either Treharris or Abergavenny, while the winners of the rearranged game between Pentyrch and Bargoed 2nd XV will also have home advantage over Penygraig.

RTB Ebbw Vale still have to wait to see they will entertain in the next round. Tredegar Ironsides will meet Pontyclun on 22 December, the same day as Blaina host Pyle to see who goes to Nantgaredig in the New Year.
