Bonymaen welcomed Seven Sisters to Parc Mawr on Friday evening for the third round of the South Wales Cup. The hosts looked to continue their unbeaten run in the Cup but faced tough opposition in their visitors who were looking to avenge their narrow 15-17 defeat from the last time these two sides met.

Seven Sisters Captain, Bethan Howell reached an impressive personal milestone, playing her 200th game for the team.

The hosts started strong with a break out wide from Cherry Morris setting up Sasha Bailey with the offload to race under the posts for the opening try, Sophie Moore converting to give Bonymaen the 7-0 lead with 10 minutes on the clock.

Seven Sisters looked to answer back with a thunderous driving maul from the pack led by the skipper to send Bonymaen back into their 22. Despite Seven Sisters huge efforts, the ladies in red were able to secure the penalty and clear up field and out of their half.

Keeping hold of the ball well, Bonymaen built up the attack in Seven Sisters half. Drawing in their opponents left the gap for Bailey to run over for her second try of the game. No conversion, but Bonymaen held the 12-0 lead going in at the break.

Coming out for the second half, Bonymaen built up the phases in their opponents half and a nice line from Georgia Stevens sent her over the line for her side’s third try of the match. Moore converting to extend their lead 19-0.

Deja vu struck moments later, with Stevens powering over the gain line to ground her second try of the evening. Moore booting the extras to take the side 26-0 ahead.

Despite the score not sitting in their favour, Sevens Sisters weren’t throwing in the towel and kept plugging away at Bonymaen’s defence. Setting up camp in the 22, the pack pierced the defence and a quick drive from Sophie Pinch sent her over the whitewash for their first points of the match.

With the momentum shifting to Seven Sisters, the side looked to go again as the game entered its final five minutes. Emily Callard Preedy kept hold of the ball and dotted over the line for their second try of the match just on the final whistle.
