The Black and Ambers took Pontypridd to the cleaners physically and opened the scoring when Luke Crane took an inside pass from Cameron Lewis to score. They were soon celebrating their second try when Rhys Jenkins powered over from short range.

Louis Jones, and Dafydd Jones crossed for further tries before half time meaning the bonus point was in Newport’s bag. Matt O’Brien and Matthew Powell scored tries after the break to secure the win for Newport, while Dale Stuckey crossed for a consolation try for the visitors.

“It was a really pleasing win, and it was a good performance all round,” said Newport playmaker O’Brien.  “We are really pleased to come away with a win against a top side.

“We like to think we’ve been playing like this all season, but it was nice to put on a show in front of the TV cameras.  Going into half time with the bonus point in the bag was very pleasing, but I think it was even more impressive the way we kept the pressure on and finished the job in the second half.”
