Caernarfon seize control to claim North Wales Cup

In the first match of the WRU Senior Women’s finals day, Caernarfon took on COBRA for the North Wales Cup.

COBRA were first out of the blocks after a break from Jaya Whittingham to set her side up nicely in their opponent’s half. Quick work out wide and a big push from the pack sent Gemma Robinson over for the opening try to.

Looking to build on the momentum, COBRA went again and applied the pressure but a beautifully timed interception from Rhodd Alaw Parry saw her run the length of the field to score under the posts. The conversion from Efa Williams taking Caernarfon 7-5 ahead.

With momentum shifting in Caernarfon’s favour, quick pace saw Kate Davies make the break and score their second of the afternoon. Williams adding the extras.

Firmly in control, Caernarfon made quick work of a passage of play to leave Mali Jones making the break and score with Williams having no trouble slotting the conversion.

Another quick passage of play from Caernarfon found the hands of Kate Davies who battled her way through the defence to score her second try of the match.

Caernarfon had time for one more just before the break with Teleri Davies powering her way under the posts for the try, Williams with the extras to put the score at 33-5.

Just before half time, a yellow card for Caernarfon’s Kate Davies left COBRA the opportunity to capitalise on the extra player.

Coming out for the second half, Caernarfon started where they left off. A lovely stage of play in COBRA’s 22 put Siwan Holloway in for the try.

Despite the score against them COBRA kept their composure and camped themselves in Carnarfon’s half digging away at their defence. Eventually their efforts were rewarded with Adelaide Edwards crashing her way over the line for the try.

Quick to answer back, Sophie Richards made the break for Caernarfon to score under the sticks with Williams adding the extras.

COBRA still kept on the fight until the very end with another ferocious attack in their opponents 22, but a resilient defence kept them away from the line. The final score sitting 45-10 to Caernarfon being crowned North Wales Cup champions.
